examples of just four indicative projects that
David Foakes Consulting has been involved with, the
real advantage is the ability to offer professional
short, medium or longer term help, advice and
support to publishers and other media owners;
It is important that the options are discussed with the client and tailored to their needs, timelines, budget and expected outcomes. |
The project brief was to provide advice and support to the Directors and Board of an International company who wished to launch a new major weekly magazine in the UK, covering the areas of workflow, pre press, paper and printing. The objective was to clearly analyse the various options and alternatives to allow the board to take a decision.
This project launched very successfully during 2006 and has resulted in further missions in production, paper and ongoing support from David Foakes Consulting.
Paper sourcing and management
David Foakes Consulting has extensive contact with many of the major paper mill groups, publishing paper service companies and high level relationships at professional consultancies to help with direct relationships, paper management and control, purchasing, forecasting, modelling and costing exercises. This leads to the potential to work on the basis of no surprises.
I believe that it is good practice to be in touch with the market at all levels taking best advantage of the on going research and development providing new possibilities, better understanding of environmental initiatives and new management tools etc.
Various projects and missions have been awarded to David Foakes Consulting to work on quality, pricing, relationships etc maintaining the best quality in a cost effective way.
Workflow analysis and improvement
This pre press and pre media project was focused on three key Divisions of a publishers operations and was aimed at considering ways to optimise their pre press organisation facilitating better management using the new tools available, web upload and pre press file exchange.
The mission involved working with production, editorial and IT areas of the publisher to gain an overview of current practices with an expected outcome of improving communications and efficiency, reducing delays and costs.
Internationalisation of a magazine brand
This project involved working with the clients publishing team, finance and a Joint Venture Partners production team to launch a magazine in a new publishing market. The support was focused at providing up to date and practical knowledge concerning work flow, pre press, printing and paper options in the new territory.
In order to improve their decision making the publishing team needed to be able to evaluate the proposed options against potential options offered by new technology, alternative suppliers and practices.
